Ethiopia MLN Status

First Report: 2014.  In July 2014, maize plants exhibiting severe yellowing and chlorotic mottle symptoms were observed in the Upper Awash Valley of Ethiopia. Mahuku et al 2014

Current Status:

2014: Surveys undertaken by EIAR in the 2014 main season indicated the presence of MLN in the Rift valley, plus Central and Western maize growing areas of Ethiopia (Source: Dr Girma Demissie, EIAR)

2015 (Off-season): MLN symptoms observed in 5 maize growing regions – Tigray, Oromia, SNNPR, Amhara, Beneshanul Gumuze (Source: Dr Girma Demissie, EIAR).
